“There is something about the outside of a horse, that is good for the inside of a man”- Winston Churchill
For thousands of years, horses have been essential to human survival. They have been a source of transportation, food and physical labor. Throughout human history the horse has been by our side, we have loved, owned and ridden horses, but what we are tapping into more recently is how horses silently speak to our hearts.
The beauty of working with horses from the ground, is understanding that they are non-judgemental, listen without interruption and offer clients the immediate gratification of being unconditionally accepted. Horses take crap from no one, and while being large and powerful, they create a natural opportunity for someone to overcome fear and develop confidence and nurture ability to confront challenging situations in life.
Horses are prey animals and are in a constant state of awareness for any signs of danger. They are highly sensitive and intuitive which makes them excellent at mirroring human’s deep emotions, even emotions that the clients are not aware exist or are unable to express themselves. Horses are extremely sensitive to non-verbal communication and respond to clients instantly. Anger does not work with horses which encourages clients to recognize the impact of their behavior and encourage them to reevaluate an approach to make them successful.
More and more facilities are offering natural horsemanship connections that nurture a completely new discovery of healing from disabilities, mental and post-traumatic conditions. The natural ability of a horse to give unconditional acceptance to a troubled person has proved itself to be one of the more successful rehabilitation methods in therapy. We are proud to offer this connection at Spirit Winds Ranch, and relish in seeing our clients thrive in all walks of life after they have had a horse connection.
